Malaysians were shocked to learn that 1,884 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (November 23rd), now our highest-ever daily tally since the pandemic began.
Selangor posted a record-high number of infections at 1,209 cases, followed by Sabah (289) and Kuala Lumpur (196).
What’s most concerning is that the Teratai Cluster in Klang, Selangor became the largest contributor of new cases in Klang Valley with 1,067 cases, followed by the Damanlela cluster (105) and a new cluster, Bintang (75).
This means that the total number of positive cases under the Teratai cluster had increased to 2,524 since it was detected on November 7th.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said most of the cases involved workers at a factory in Meru.
“A total of 5,767 people have been screened, 1,330 tested negative while 1,913 are awaiting results. The cluster consists of 164 locals and 2,360 foreigners aged between two and 68.
“The factory's management had isolated workers identified as close contacts to quarantine centres, with the dorms and workers' residence already placed under Enhanced Movement Control since November 17th,” he explained.
It’s understood that the virus has spread beyond the factory workers' circle and that the National Security Council (MKN) has ordered all of the related 28 factories in Klang to shut down in phases following the significant increase of cases in the area.
