The Catholic Church has taken precautionary measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, following an exponential hike in the number of new daily cases over the past week.
Yesterday (October 5th), our daily tally reached a record-high of 432 new cases, and only time will tell how the numbers are set to fluctuate from here.
With that, the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur has ordered the temporary suspension of all public masses in parishes located within KL and Selangor, to reduce the risk of transmission.
In an official chancery notice, Archdiocese Chancellor, Rev Fr Michael Chua said the suspension will commence tomorrow (October 7th), and will be reviewed before October 20th.
“Parishes located within the states of Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu are to continue with scheduled Masses, but should insist on pre-registration of parishioners wishing to attend mass, to ensure that non-resident persons travelling from other areas are NOT ALLOWED to participate.”
“Live-streaming of Masses will continue for the benefit of those who are unable to attend Mass in person,” said Chua.
He also urged parishioners to refrain from travelling out of state to attend mass, adding that sacramental ceremonies including weddings, funerals and baptisms should be postponed till further notice.
Additional measures may be taken in the future for individual parishes and districts should the situation get worse, and they will be notified accordingly.
