The body of 20-year-old Mohd Loqman Hamka, who was reported missing after falling into Sungai Pahang at Kampung Tebing Tinggi late last month has been found.

Villagers spotted the body floating near a jetty at Kampung Batu Papan this morning (December 8th), some 32 kilometers from the spot where he was reported missing.

According to Temerloh District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yusri Othman, Loqman’s body was found fully-clothed and was easily identified by the victim’s family members.

“Policemen retrieved the body before it was sent to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital's forensic unit in Temerloh. We believe the body was swept further downstream by currents due to the recent rain,” he said.

Meanwhile, Loqman’s father, Hamka Abu Bakar said that although his son was found dead, he was grateful that the body of his youngest of four children was finally found and ended the family's wait.

“I thank the security forces who worked hard to help us find Mohd Loqman since the first day he fell into the river. We are grateful for our prayers as parents to see him one last time,” he said.

On November 27th, Loqman had gone to inspect the fishing line at the river that morning, but a few hours later, his family realised he had gone missing when his friend noticed his boat just drifting in the river.

The story had even caught the attention of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who joined the search and rescue mission last Thursday (December 3rd) along with three of his sons.

Our thoughts go out to Loqman’s family.
