According to The Star, a team was deployed there where they found the dead elephant calf on the side of the road.
Salman Saaban, the director of Johor Wildlife and National Parks Department (PERHILITAN) said they received a report on the incident at around 7.45 am on Tuesday (1 September).
“The calf is believed to be between one and two-years-old, and it died due to being hit by a car,” he said.
The car was heading from Kota Tinggi to Mersing before it hit the young elephant that was trying to cross the road.

Salman added that his team conducted a surveillance of the scene and found that there are around two to three adult elephants in the area, “The area is known as a hotspot for wild elephants to cross the road, and this is the third case where an elephant had died from being hit by a car.”
“The carcass will be buried after the department has recorded its morphology,” he said.
This is sad, but accidents happen… so next time when you’re driving, please be careful especially when there are wild animals signage in the area!
