6,010 Locations Have Been Listed As Temporary Relief Centers In Preparation For Possible Floods

A total of 6,010 temporary relief centers have been identified nationwide in preparation for possible floods during the northeast monsoon season.

According to FMT, interim Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Rina Harun stated that the social welfare department (JKM) was fully prepared with essential items for flood victims currently stored in disaster storage depots across the country awaiting instructions to be dispatched.

She also expressed concern when 35% of these relief centers were also listed as polling centers for the upcoming general election (GE 15) that is happening on 19 November.

“So let us pray that no major floods occur in the near future, as well as on election day,” she told reporters.

On Wednesday (9 November), the drainage and irrigation department issued a flash flood warning for Pahang, Selangor, Johor and Sarawak.

The notice was based on rainfall forecast data from the Malaysian Meteorological Department and Southeastern Asia-Oceania flash flood guidance system.

Stay safe, everyone.

Be sure to check the weather updates before leaving your house and plan your trips before heading out to avoid being stuck in traffic, especially those living in big cities!
