The Usaha Tegas Heritage Art Competition is here once again to invite young Malaysian artists to celebrate the nation’s rich cultural history through art for the 22nd year running.
As the name suggests, the competition focuses on the overarching theme of “Malaysian Heritage” continuing with a special highlight on our nation’s intangible cultural heritage.
While buildings, monuments, and historic places are often carefully preserved and restored to ensure their survival for future generations, the intangible heritage is often over-looked despite Malaysia’s rich traditional treasures and its importance in maintaining cultural diversity of the country.
Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from Malaysian intangible cultural heritage which includes oral traditions, the performing arts, customs and social practices, as well as test their creativity by interpreting stories of legends, folk dances, rituals and crafts in artworks.
The competition is opened to Malaysian students currently pursuing tertiary education at any local or private institutions in Malaysia, offering cash and prizes worth more than RM80,000 to be won.
There are five categories under each the first prize winner will receive RM8,000 in cash, the runner up will receive RM3,000 in cash, the third prize winner will receive RM2,000 in cash while two consolation prize winners will receive RM500 each.
In addition, an award certificate and RM500 worth of TGV Cinemas voucher (or its equivalent) will be provided to all winners.
Entry submission is currently opened until 16 September 2022 and the competing artworks are required to fall under one of the following five categories: oil or acrylic; watercolour; charcoal or pencil or oil pastel or ink; print making and mixed media. Participants can also submit as many entries as they would like.
