Pioneered by the SDS Youth Group of the Shree Lakshmi Narayan Temple, the SDS Holi Festival Malaysia is an annual event that celebrates the illustrious and colourful festival of Holi in Malaysia.
Open to the public, it draws larger crowds every year to join in on the festivities. After a 6-year hiatus of Holi celebrations at our beloved Shree Lakshmi Narayan Temple, the SDS Youth Group are bringing you a new and revamp RANGWALI HOLI 2023!
Holi, a spring festival also known as the festival of colours, is an ancient religious Hindu festival which has grown to be quite popular with Hindus and even non-Hindus across South Asia and many other communities around the globe.
The celebration invites a feeling of togetherness and a sense of community among people of different backgrounds, who join together in enjoyment and positivity.
At the Shree Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Holi has been celebrated with great gusto for the past ten years, with an atmosphere so vibrant that the experience itself will leave all attendees in awe. It is one of scintillating fun and is celebrated on a grand scale as everyone in sight is set in motion with coloured powder and colour-infused water in hand, only to be watered down by playful water guns or pails of water.
In 2014, the event attracted a crowd of up to 2500 people from 35 different countries, and in 2015, had 5000 people who braved the hot sun and the long queues just to be a part of this exciting and vibrant celebration. As for 2016, with an official number of 5955 people and an unofficial number of over 6500 people from over 45 different countries, SDS Holi created history by gaining a place in the Malaysia Book of Records!
The objective, as always, is to unite people of all cultures and walks of life to take part in this colourful event to promote comradery and instil a community feel amongst those attending.
They have had the same reception, same energy and same vibes as for the following years until the country were hit with the global COVID-19 pandemic.
But, fret not as they are back once again this year!
The upcoming Rangwali Holi 2023 festival will be packed with some amazing performers who will ensure the event lives up to its billing. This year will bring the very same event everyone has grown to enjoy, along with much more to add.
