Mingyu’s Sweet Surprise Visit to KL: A Day Malaysian CARATs Will Never Forget!

It finally happened — Mingyu was in Malaysia!

After six long years since SEVENTEEN last visited the country, the group’s rapper and visual made his highly anticipated return on 5th July for the SNICKERS Pop-Up Event, and the excitement was truly unforgettable.

He arrived the night before, and fans were already waiting at the airport just to catch a glimpse of him. What made this moment even more special? Mingyu posted a video on Instagram from his point of view, capturing the moment he saw Malaysian CARATs again after so many years. The crowd was excited but calm, and many international fans later praised Malaysian CARATs online for being respectful and giving him space. Truly a proud moment for Malaysian fans!

Shortly after arriving, Mingyu posted a mirror selfie from his hotel room with the caption, “I arrived safely. Thank you and see you tomorrow.” Two updates within hours? Malaysia, you’ve absolutely won.

By the next morning, fans were already queuing at Sunway Pyramid for the pop-up event. Although the event was closed to media, fans could still watch from all around the mall. At 2.15 PM, Mingyu appeared, and the crowd went wild.

He stayed for about 45 minutes, waving, smiling and filming the crowd with his phone. It was clear he missed the energy of his Malaysian CARATs. He even took time to explore the pop-up booths, interact with fans, and greet contest winners from Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

During the event, Mingyu expressed his interest in trying local favourites like teh tarik, ais kacang, and of course, nasi lemak. Looks like we’ve got another K-idol with a soft spot for Malaysian food!

One of the cutest highlights? Fans introduced him to the term “WAGYU” (Wanita Mingyu) — a playful nickname for his Malaysian fans. Mingyu loved it and used it a few times, clearly touched by the connection.

Even as the event wrapped up, Mingyu made sure no fan felt left out. He kept walking around, trying to wave at as many people as possible. If someone was behind a barricade or a structure, he’d peek around just to send a smile or wave. That’s the kind of person he is — warm, considerate, and incredibly humble.

Although he has since flown back to Korea, he left behind a trail of joy and memories. Just before signing off for the night, he posted twice on Weverse:

“Thank you, love you Malaysia.”
“Let’s have a good rest, CARAT. Thank you so much.”
