First, you have to gather all of your clothes, then sort them, wash them, dry them, fold or hang them and finally, put them away.

But, are you the type of person who cuts corners and ditches the sorting process altogether and just washes everything together?

Actually, there are some important reasons why we sort our laundry before washing them. Here are a few of the reasons, according to Tide Cleaners.

#1 Sort For Effective Stain Removal

Clothes that aren’t especially soiled are one thing, but clothes with tough or excessive stains may not come clean if they aren’t treated before washing.

So, pull out those clothes with the nasty grass stains or blood stains first and soak them in water, or apply laundry detergent directly on the spot before washing!

#2 Sort to Preserve Colour

You want to keep your white fabrics white, and your coloured fabrics at the same level of brightness when you first bought them… which means, you should be separating your laundry into three different categories before washing them - whites, lights and darks.

However, with modern day washers and dryers, separating the lights and darks are not necessary anymore, but it is still important to separate whites and colours, though!

#3 Sort to Protect Delicate Fabrics

There are basically four categories to consider when sorting by fabrics: delicates, denim, towels, and everything else.

Delicates include things like silk, satin, lace and netting. Delicate clothes need to be hand washed or washed on a gentle cycle, however, jeans and other denim items are very heavy when wet and take a long time to dry.

Or, do what works for your laundry! Hope this helps!
