It’s difficult to say if the coronavirus pandemic is showing any signs of slowing down, as the situation in different countries vary.

Nevertheless, holidaymakers are still looking up their favourite travel destinations, for if and when international borders are finally lifted - and it seems Taiwan is the No. 1 travel wishlist destination.

According to search data revealed by Agoda.com, Taiwan has knocked Thailand into second place, ahead of Japan, Vietnam, South Korea in the top five, with the US, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Indonesia completing the top 10.

Malaysians, in particular, have favoured domestic destinations this year for obvious reasons, with Kuala Lumpur placing at the top spot across different traveler type lists, except Group travels, where Bentong, Pahang is the most searched.

On international destinations, Tokyo and Seoul leap into the top ten this year, at ninth for all travelers and tenth for family travelers, respectively.

Bangkok is still on Malaysian’s mind but slips from fourth to sixth spot this year.

More solo travelers aim to travel to Bangkok (#2) this year, a jump from #4 last year.

While our borders are still closed for travel, we should see this as a chance to explore our own beautiful country, and maybe finally take a trip to places around Malaysia we’ve always wanted to see.

You could say “Visit Malaysia 2020” was actually meant for us all along!
