Single Step Is The Right Step

There are oh-so-many eco-friendly, sustainable products out there, so much so that deciding just where to buy from is becoming a difficult choice. The worst part of it all is that these products are often pricey despite the relatively low cost materials.

Kim wanted a bamboo toothbrush, but the only ones she could find from ordinary retailers were not worth the price. Tired of having to look high and low for something so simple, she then started her own business selling affordable eco-friendly products which she runs with the help of her boyfriend, Beh. They launched their online store in March 2019 and go by @singlestepbykim on Instagram and Single Step on Facebook. With no physical store just yet, no plastic packaging, and leaving minimal waste behind, they are truly the embodiment of green rangers.

In Kim’s store, bamboo toothbrushes go for only RM5! We got the opportunity to take a look at some of their products in their pop-up booth at the recent MAKE SMTHNG Weekend. Impressive doesn’t really do them justice, because the range of items they carry is prettttttyyy big. Think natural loofahs, organic soaps, silicone food bags, reusable menstrual pads and more.

We got curious about the usability and contents of some of the products, but Kim reassured us that the unbleached cotton and different absorbent layers in the cloth pads does not stain and works just as well as regular store-bought products! Meanwhile, the organic soaps imported from Syria contain olive oil, water, and lime, pretty basic ingredients which should be relatively safe for anyone and everyone to use. Chemical-free is the way to go, after all!

One unique thing that got our attention is the fact the Single Step even provides customisable corporate gifts. From items like utensils and pens, these personalised gifts definitely amps up the wow factor (now we kinda want one too).

Will you be purchasing some of these products for yourself?
