Penang Assam Laksa Is Listed In The World’s 50 Best Food List (Again!)

There is no love sincerer than the love of food, and if you know Malaysians, you’ll know that we love our food!

CNN recently released its World’s 50 Best Food list and Malaysians were left proud when the iconic Penang assam laksa took 7th place, even beating Thailand’s tom yam goong.

However, Thailand’s Massaman curry ultimately gets crowned as the number 1 best food out of the 50 dishes, putting our beloved Penang Assam Laksa as the second-best dish in the Southeast Asia region.

The Massaman curry, which has Muslim roots, is a traditional dish that CNN describes as the “king of curries” ...and perhaps the king of all food.

Apart from Thailand, Malaysia is also the second country from Southeast Asia to even make it to the top 10 of this list. So be proud, guys!

Here’s the list of the top 10 best food:

  1. Massamam curry, Thailand

  2. Neapolitan pizza, Italy

  3. Chocolate, Mexico

  4. Sushi, Japan

  5. Peking duck, China

  6. Hamburger, Germany

  7. Penang assam laksa, Malaysia

  8. Tom yam goong, Thailand

  9. Ice-cream, Global

  10. Chicken muamba, Gabon

Laksa is still one of the best dishes in the world and deserves the top spot in our opinion.

Even the late legendary Anthony Bourdain lauded it as among the best food he’s ever had when he visited Kuching, Sarawak.
