Mondelēz International today announced its limited-edition Oreo Red Velvet with sweet cream cheese filling sandwiched between cake-flavoured cookies, making it the perfect snack to share with family and friends this Chinese New Year.
“Oreo has become an iconic snack-time staple and we go to great lengths to keep the fun element going with exciting flavours that speak to the local market. Oreo Red Velvet introduction is timely as Malaysians prepare for the Chinese New Year, with its unique red velvety flavour and cheeky nod to the traditional metaphors associated with the celebration,” said Simon Crowther, Senior Marketing Manager, Biscuits of Mondelēz International (Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore).
According to Crowther, in capturing the Chinese New Year spirit, the red cookies are meant to symbolise luck while the sweet cream cheese ushers in sweet memories for the coming year. The combination of both in a perfect circle echoes completeness during this festive season.
To spread more festive joy, Oreo is also launching a social media hashtag challenge - #OreoTurnsRed.
From 14 to 22 January 2020, Oreo fans need to post a picture featuring the Oreo Red Velvet in their festive red ensemble and tag a friend with the hashtag #OreoTurnsRed to get them on the challenge. Fans will need to set their profile to public to be discovered and the winners will be contacted from 23 January onwards to receive an Oreo Red Velvet goodie bag, containing Oreo Red Velvet cookies and collectable ang pau packets.
Oreo Red Velvet will be available for a limited time at selected supermarkets and convenience stores in Malaysia in two types of packaging:
● Oreo Red Velvet @ 137g: RM3.60
● Oreo Red Velvet @ 345g: RM5.60
