You may not know this, but Malaysians are actually some of the most avid online shoppers in the world!

And of course, our performance in yesterday’s 11.11 sale was no surprise.

According to Alibaba Group’s news hub Alizila, Malaysia ranks fourth in terms of the top overseas countries purchasing from China, just behind the United States, Russia, and France.

This only proves the stereotype right that Malaysians will go crazy whenever there’s a sale!

For your information, 12:00 am – 1:00 am is the peak shopping hour as hundreds of thousands of bargain hunters rushed to shop online and check out their purchases.

Here are the key findings based on ShopBack Malaysia’s first hour user shopping data:

  • There was a significant increase in terms of shopping traffic (web + app) in the first hour, with a traffic spike of 20 times compared to the same hour (12:00 am – 1:00 am) on an average day this month.
  • Adidas’ shopping traffic soared by more than 100 times in the first hour (versus first hour on an average day); Shopee and Tmall’s increased by over 20 times.
  • Shoppers visited general marketplaces such as Shopee and Taobao the most, followed by fashion stores such as ZALORA and Adidas, and health and beauty stores such as Watsons.
  • Among more than 80 Shopee Official Stores that are directly offering cashback on ShopBack, Enfagrow, P&G, Pediasure, Samsung, and Vinda are leading in terms of sales transacted by ShopBack users in the first hour.
  • Driven by the high number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia, it was also found that there was an over 50-times’ increase in Dettol’s first hour sales compared to the same hour on an average day this month.

During 11.11 last year, more than RM20 million worth of merchant sales were generated through ShopBack Malaysia.

Did you play a part in this year’s 11.11 sale?
