Be Wary Of Scammers When You’re Buying Furniture On Facebook!

be wary of scammers when you’re buying furniture on facebook!

It’s safe to say that online shopping has become a norm amid the global coronavirus lockdown, but that also means that more people have fallen victim to online scammers.

…and now, these scammers have a new way for you to fall into their trap - posting fake furniture listings on Facebook!

With that, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) wants you to be wary of these scammers, and has urged the public to be extra careful when buying furniture on Facebook.

Here’s how they work:

  • Once the scammer receives your deposit, they will delete their Facebook account.
  • If you post a negative comment on the listing, the scammer will delete your comment almost immediately, and then block your Facebook account.
  • The scammer would use a mule account to receive your payment.
  • The scammer could lure you into using WhatsApp in the process.

So if you’re shopping online, or deciding to buy something from any social media platform, always be careful and informed!
