Astro is strengthening its commitment towards a greener future by kickstarting an e-waste recycling programme.
In conjunction with the annual International e-Waste Day, the Group has launched its first internal staff e-Waste recycling program in partnership with ERTH Malaysia, a non-profit organization committed to helping all Malaysians recycle their electric and electronic waste better.
The program is endorsed by the Department of Environment Malaysia (DoE).
For every one (1) ton of e-waste collected, Astro will be able to contribute a laptop to a student. The launch, which was officiated at Astro’s Bukit Jalil headquarters earlier today, was attended by DoE’s Director General YBrs En. Wan Abdul Latiff B. Wan Jaffar.
Director General YBrs En. Wan Abdul Latiff B. Wan Jaffar said, “We are glad to see corporations like Astro concern about the environment and so taking the lead in driving awareness for e-waste recycling among its staff.
"In the future, we would like to see more and more of the public become aware of the e-waste they generate and take action to reduce it accordingly.”
An Astro employee from the IT department, Muhammad Fauzi Yahya said: “E-waste is such an important element of waste in our society today that is often not talked about enough.
"I’m really happy to see our company starting this new initiative. I hope that from now on Astro staff will become more aware of the dangers of e-waste pollution. I will also be doing my part to encourage my colleagues to donate their used e-waste products while this campaign lasts.”
As part of the ongoing e-waste campaign, Astro will also be running several staff activities to drive awareness, such as contest giveaways, weekly quizzes and a contests, beginning from 14 October until the end of the month!
