His initiative to help people in need suddenly went viral online after a photo of his stall, with a red banner promoting free lunches garnered a lot of attention from internet users.

“If you have financial troubles or are hungry, you are welcome to my stall. Simply let us know that you would like to order a bowl of ‘We Will Meet Again Noodles,’” and you can just leave after finishing your meal.

“Don’t feel ashamed,” the banner reads.

The stall owner, Qiu Kongyuan expressed his hope in an interview with Sin Chew Daily that by doing this, those who might not have money to spend on food can still have a great meal at no cost.

Since the day the banner was up, quite a few people have ordered the special meal. He revealed that so far, 10 people have ordered the ‘We Will Meet Again Noodles.’

The banner, which was written by his wife, reads both in Mandarin and Malay, “We hope that one day you could help other people, too if you are in a position to do so. Thank you.”

Qiu has been running his stall for 6 to 7 years now and was inspired to give away meals after serving one of his customers with a learning disability.

He said that the customer would sometimes pay him RM2 for a bowl of noodle or there are times where he would just leave without paying, and he had never asked him to pay the full amount, assuming that he could not afford it.

He then thought that there must be more customers just like him, which gave him the idea to help others in need.

“This is my way of giving back to society. I will continue to give away ‘free noodles’ as long as I can still afford it,” he said.

Thank you Uncle Qiu for doing this!
