Michelle Yeoh Fulfills Oscar Speech Promise By Bringing Trophy To Mother in Malaysia

Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, the award-winning actress and the pride of Malaysia, has kept her promise of bringing home her coveted golden statuette - the Oscar trophy - to her mother, Datin Janet Yeoh.

Born and raised in Ipoh, Malaysia, the actress returned to her homeland recently to celebrate the traditional festival of Qing Ming, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, and to pay her respects to her late father, Datuk Yeoh Kian Tiek.

While in Malaysia, Yeoh fulfilled the promise she made during her Oscar acceptance speech on March 13, where she dedicated her award to her mother and promised to bring it home to her. In an Instagram post, the actress shared a heartwarming photo of her mother holding the coveted trophy.

“Brought Mr. O home...Without my parent’s love and trust and support...I wouldn’t be here today...love so much,” Yeoh wrote on Instagram.

In her Oscar acceptance speech, Yeoh expressed her gratitude towards her mother and dedicated the award to her. She also thanked all the mothers in the world for being the real superheroes and acknowledged that without them, none of us would be there that night.

“She’s watching right now in Malaysia, KL with my family and friends - I love you guys,” Yeoh said.

Yeoh made history by becoming the first Malaysian and Asian to win an Academy Award for Best Actress for her lead role in the film, "Everything Everywhere All At Once."
