The SYOK team had the pleasure of attending both days of Kim Sungkyu's 2024 KIM SUNG KYU CONCERT [LV3 : Let's Vacay] in Kuala Lumpur.
For those unfamiliar, Kim Sungkyu is a prominent member of the legendary Korean boy group INFINITE. His journey to Kuala Lumpur marked a significant moment as he embarked on his solo tour, drawing in a sea of dedicated fans.
The excitement was palpable as fans arrived early at the Mega Star Arena in Kuala Lumpur, eager to witness their idol live. Many adorned in yellow and clutching their lightsticks, their enthusiasm was undeniable. The energy in the air was electric as they prepared for an unforgettable evening.
The moment Kim Sungkyu stepped on stage, he was greeted with deafening cheers from INSPIRITS, the loyal fandom of INFINITE. He immediately connected with the crowd, greeting them in Malay with a cheerful, “Apa khabar semua, saya Kim Sung Kyu!” after delivering a powerful trio of opening songs. This concert marked a significant milestone as Sungkyu's first solo performance in Malaysia. Reflecting on his return, he shared, “It’s been a long time since INFINITE last performed in Malaysia, and I’m so happy to finally see my fans here again!” He also revealed that he had enjoyed a restful night before the show and indulged in Malaysia’s must-try dish, Nasi Lemak.
As he launched into his first solo track, "41th," the crowd's enthusiasm reached new heights, echoing their approval with shouts of "We love it!" Sungkyu continued to mesmerise the audience with his dynamic performances of hits like "Climax," "It Will Be," "Jump," "Go Again," "Kontrol," and "Sorry," leaving fans thoroughly entertained.
The intimacy of the concert shone through during performances of "Small Talk" and "60sec," where fans passionately sang along to every word. Sungkyu was visibly moved, giving the crowd a thumbs up and praising their singing skills with a surprised, "You sang so well, I’m really surprised!" The fans, in turn, proudly responded with the iconic Malaysian chant, "Malaysia Boleh!"
The concert was peppered with heartwarming moments, as Sungkyu, who has participated in several musicals, asked the audience if they had seen his performances. To his delight, some fans shouted, "Yes!" and even shared that they had travelled to South Korea to support him. The excitement peaked when fans eagerly requested a reunion of INFINITE in Malaysia. Sungkyu's promise to return with the group sparked instant joy and anticipation.
As the concert neared its end, Sungkyu announced, "This is the last song for today," only to be met with a chorus of "No!" from the crowd. With heartfelt emotion, he reflected on his journey, saying, "It’s been more than 10 years since I last came to Malaysia, but you know, I’ve always been with you. So much has happened in these 10 years - I’ve cried and laughed. Thank you for always supporting me. I love you!" The night concluded with encore performances of "Kontrol," "My Everyday Is You," "๋ต๊ฐ," and "๋๋ฆผ," leaving fans with a deep sense of connection and nostalgia.
The concert's intimate atmosphere allowed fans to see a side of Sungkyu that was both genuine and endearing. He sat down on stage, listening to INSPIRITS sing his songs back to him, joking around, and showing just how much he cherishes his role as a performer. His vocals were nothing short of spectacular, showcasing his incredible talent and dedication to his craft.
As the night came to a close, fans were left with a mix of emotions—nostalgia for the past and excitement for what’s to come. Many of the fans had been with INFINITE since their debut in 2010, growing up alongside the group and cherishing every moment.
