In the midst of this thriving entertainment scene, mega-popular hip-hop star Kanye West is set to make a significant return to South Korea after a 14-year hiatus. This confirmation came from music media brand Channel Candy, which announced on social media that West will not only visit but also hold a concert in Korea this summer. The concert is scheduled for August 23 at the Goyang Sports Complex in Gyeonggi province.
This will be Kanye West’s first performance in South Korea since the 2010 hip-hop festival Summer Week&T held at Naksan Beach on the East Coast, marking a long-awaited return for the artist. Kanye West, a Grammy-winning rapper renowned for his multiple Best Rap Album awards in the 2000s, began his career as a producer for big names like Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Janet Jackson. His official debut came in 2004 with the release of his first album, The College Dropout.
Throughout his career, West has achieved immense fame, though not without a fair share of controversies and scandals. Earlier this year, he collaborated with Ty Dolla Sign on the album VULTURES 1, which topped the Billboard 200 chart.
His single "CARNIVAL" also secured the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100, further proving his enduring popularity and influence.
As the date of his concert approaches, there is widespread curiosity among netizens about the event's success and which beloved Korean celebrities will attend. Given South Korea's current status as a leading entertainment hub, the concert is expected to attract significant attention and fanfare.
