Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin has urged the public to come forward amid more complaints of alleged attempts to jump the queue for the COVID-19 vaccine.

This comes after Selayang Hospital nephrologist, Dr Rafidah Abdullah recently took to Twitter to reveal that certain people were able to skip the queues to be vaccinated, and she urged the ministry to consider an independent channel for the public to lodge complaints.

In a virtual press conference today (March 1st), Khairy confirmed that some people who were not supposed to receive the vaccine had successfully made it to the list of individuals under the first phase of the National Immunisation Programme.

“It was not due to a flaw in the registration process, but rather there was a lack of clarity so people tried their luck and managed to get in (the list). But the numbers are very small,” he said.

Heeding Dr Rafidah’s call, Khairy said a special committee has been set up to investigate complaints of queue jumping for the vaccines meant for frontliners under the first phase of the national immunisation programme.

“We have decided to come out with clear guidelines which will specify in detail who are frontliners and this will be uploaded to our website. The issue of queue-jumping will not arise anymore and all will be asked to adhere to the guidelines, ” he said.

Khairy also said on Twitter that those wanting to lodge complaints of queue jumping can do so anonymously to protect their identity.

“Whistleblowers can email anonymously directly to me at kj@mosti.gov.my and I will investigate."

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador also urged anyone who knows of vaccine queue-jumpers to lodge a police report.

He said it is a criminal offence to cut queues, stating it is considered a form of malpractice and as such, action could be taken against the culprits.

Meanwhile, you can find out how to register for the programme here.
