Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said the committee still stands with its decision to proceed with said policy although recent reports show that the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine offers 85% efficacy.

He added that the second dose will be provided 21 days after the first dose. The vaccination programme is however not compulsory and if you’re wondering how you can sign up for it, here’s how:

Khairy said that they’ll look into the overall data and decide if the vaccine should be made compulsory to all. Those with serious side-effects from the vaccination will be given ex-gratia payments.

During the press conference upon arrival of the vaccine on Sunday (Feb 21), he also mentioned that illegal foreigners who come forward to be vaccinated will not be detained.

The Immunisation Programme is set to begin this Wednesday (Feb 24), two days ahead of schedule.

While the nation is abuzz with frenzy over the coming deployment of the vaccine, we urge  everyone to practice patience, understanding and calm!
