Phase 2 of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme Kicks Off April 19th

The National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) is set to enter Phase 2 from April 19th.
The Programme’s Coordinating Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin adds that recipients will be notified of their vaccine appointments from April 5th, which is as early as two weeks before the kick-off date.

Meanwhile, Khairy Jamaluddin says some two million people are currently registered for the programme’s second phase, compared to its target of nine million recipients involving the elderly, those in high-risk groups, as well as disabled people.
He says if Phase 2 registration numbers remain low, other people may be offered the vaccine early.
These include those who registered early for Phase 3, as well as economic frontliners.
Khairy also says that the relevant agencies are still discussing the Prime Minister’s proposal on whether to set a deadline for vaccine registrations.
He says they will make an announcement on the matter, if they decide that the move can bring a positive outcome to the number of vaccinations.
On another note, Khairy says the government will focus on immunizing industry sector workers once the country has enough COVID-19 vaccine supply.
He says it will prioritise industries with more than 5,000 workers, as well as those in high-risk or red zone areas.
