Do Not Steal Medical Supplies!

Mar 23, 2020

While health workers across the country are making their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) just to cope with the shortage of medical supplies and the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, some people decided to be selfish and to only think about themselves.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, a Twitter user was seen posting a huge bottle of hand sanitizer that she had gotten for “free” from the hospital.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident, as there are others who were also proudly sharing their stolen hand sanitizers on social media without thinking twice about the impact it had on everyone else.

At a time where facemasks and hand sanitizers are hard to find in the market not only for normal citizens, but for doctors and nurses who badly need them, as they are exposed to the virus on a daily basis, these irresponsible actions sparked obvious outrage.

Many healthcare workers including Malaysia’s favourite doctor, Dr. Amalina Bakri, also reprimanded those who are being selfish and irresponsible.

Many healthcare workers have publicly shared their dire conditions in working to fight against the deadly virus. On top of working non-stop and having to distance themselves from their loved ones at the risk of getting them infected, many have reported that their hospitals are running out of PPE and other medical supplies, to the point that they have to resort to making them on their own.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health (MOH) shares its available capacity across 26 hospitals in Malaysia. MOH would need a further 500 ventilators and 2 million face masks in order to effectively cope with the rapid incline of COVID-19 cases.

It is a difficult time for all but do remember to be mindful of others who are more vulnerable and at risk of getting infected. Let’s fight this together!
