A Look At The First Day Of The Movement Control Order

Mar 19, 2020

Here’s a look at the first day of Movement Control Order as reported by Bernama.

In just 9 hours of the Movement Control Order being issued, we can see roads and highways in various areas around Malaysia clearing up.

Restaurants, food joints and especially Mamaks where we Malaysians love to “lepak” were practically empty as we can only “tapau’ our food, NOT dine in.

Some shops owners and malls also decided to cease operations during the Movement Control Order.

Essential services such as those offering raw food supplies are still in operation so don’t panic, you can still get your food supply and other grocery items.

Public transportarion such as LRT and KTMB are also in operation with some added guidelines.

This is definitely NOT the time for you to visit any tourist attractions. Pictured below are popular tourist sites such as Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur and the historic city of Malacca all clear of tourist buses and visitors.

After the announcement of the Movement Control Order on the 16 of March 2020, Prime Minister Muhiyiddin Yassin had to make a second address to the public yesterday, advising everyone to take the ruling seriously. He was seen repeatedly reminding the public to STAY AT HOME. This effectively means that Malaysians should stay put where they are instead of going back to their hometowns or engaging in mass movements or gathering.

Videos and pictures from the Southern Integrated Terminal (TBS) circulated social media showing many that are still taking lightly the instruction to restrict their movements.

Certain eateries are still allowing dine-in options which would defeat the whole purpose of social distancing to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

While it’s understandable that everyone would want to spend time with their loved ones during this difficult time, do so in the privacy of your own homes and remember to stay indoors and only go out when necessary.

Remember everyone, stay safe by taking care of your hygiene and STAYING AT HOME!
