All 11 Districts In Kedah Are Now COVID-19 Red Zones

Feb 22, 2022

All 11 districts in Kedah are now COVID-19 red zones except for a few areas in the 132 sub-districts that are either yellow or orange zones.

The COVID-19 infections in Kedah have been classified as random cases and are no longer limited to cluster outbreaks, according to Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Otman, head of the State Health and Local Government Committee.

"The positive cases were from self-tests conducted by people who had symptoms or had close interactions with them.

"We used to have education clusters, umrah pilgrimage clusters, industry clusters, and so on, but that is no longer the case; instead, individual infections are now the norm,” he said as reported by the New Straits Times.

So far, about 1,500 children in Kedah have been infected with COVID-19 so far.

"Not only are most mukims now in red zones, but many people in villages have tested positive for COVID-19," he added.

However, according to Dr. Hayati, the vast majority of cases fall into Categories 1 and 2, with just a small percentage of individuals infected having severe symptoms.

Dr. Hayati also cautioned people who tested positive that they would be subjected to home surveillance and would be prohibited from having any physical contact with others.

"While some countries have deemed COVID-19 to be just a flu, and others have already entered the endemic phase, we in Malaysia are still required to follow the Health Ministry's Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)," he stated.

As of Tuesday (February 22nd), Kota Star has the most active cases (6,981), followed by Kuala Muda (6,690), Kulim (4,084 cases), and Kubang Pasu (4,016 cases), and then other districts.

The number of daily infections are rising, so we shouldn’t be complacent and always remember to follow SOPs!

Take care, everyone.
