COVID-19: You Can Now Claim Tax Relief for COVID-19 Tests

Good news for those of you who regularly get tested for COVID-19.

You’ve done your part to protect yourselves and your loved ones, now the taxman is helping you cover some of the cost. 

The IRB says you can now claim tax relief of up to RM1,000 for COVID testing for yourself, spouse and kids for the 2021 assessment. 

This includes RT-PCR screenings at private medical centers as well as self-test kits. 

There is a catch, though.  

Just like any other form of income tax relief, you will need to provide supporting documents as proof. 

In this case, it means receipts, either from the hospital/clinic or the pharmacy from where you bought the test kit. 

What’s more, individual tax-payers (as well as their spouse and kids) who opted to pay for COVID-19 vaccination can also claim tax relief up to RM1,000. 

So dig up those old receipts, because tax season is just around the corner!
