We’re still in the first week of 2022 and already we’ve got some not-so-good news for Marvel’s Morbius fans.

Due to the rise in Omicron cases around the world, Sony has decided to delay (yet again) the release of Morbius from it’s supposed January date to 1st April 2022.

As fans will very well know, the movie starring Jared Leto has been postponed several times during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was first due to be released on 10th July 2020, and then 31st July 2020. But Covid-19 had other ideas and pushed the release to 19th March 2021. The movie was once again postponed to 8th October 2021, and now the most recent planned January release date has been pushed back to 1st April 2022.

With the rising cases of the Omicron variant globally, the production studio is concerned about releasing their latest Marvel-based movie right now and has raised new concerns about whether the audiences will feel comfortable heading to cinemas while cases surge.

With Sony still riding on the massive box office success of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Venom: Let The Be Carnage, the studio definitely has no reason to rush the release of the highly anticipated movie, and it looks like the ongoing pandemic has allowed them to play it smart.

As Morbuis is not as well-known outside of comic reading circles, it seems that Sony is questioning how many fans would be willing to head out to see the character’s debut in cinemas with health and safety concerns rising again. The studio is also planning another standalone spinoff based on Spidey villain Kraven the Hunter, so the stakes are high.

For those unfamiliar with the anti-hero, Jared Leto plays Dr. Michael Morbius who after being diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, is determined to save himself and others but the “cure” comes at a price and transforms him into a vampire-like creature.

Matt Smith, Jared Harris and Tyrese Gibson join the Morbius cast, as well Michael Keaton who will reprise his role as The Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Well it looks like the wait for Morbius continues… Hopefully this will be the last delay….

Are you looking forward to Morbius? What are your thoughts on the delay? Let us know!
