Teen Vaccination Program Officially A Go!

Sep 20, 2021

Malaysia officially kicked off a new COVID-19 vaccination plan today, which involves teenagers aged 12 to 17.

The Health Minister says the National Adolescent Immunisation Program is expected to vaccinate over 3 million teens through several methods.

This includes giving out the vaccine at schools, health clinics and hospitals, as well as through walk-ins at selected vaccination centers nationwide.

Khairy Jamaluddin says a list of the selected centers will be announced tomorrow (September 21).

Meanwhile, teenagers who walk into vaccination centers to take the injection must be accompanied by a guardian to fill up a consent form.

On another note, Khairy says over 85,000 teenagers in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan have already received one dose of the vaccine.

So far, there have been no reports of them experiencing adverse side effects…

He also advised recipients not to do any strenuous activities for one week after getting the jab.

Meanwhile, he says teens with health problems will be exempted from receiving the vaccine.

Khairy adds that 60% of teenagers are expected to receive their first shot by November, while 80% will be fully vaccinated by January.

Currently, more than 40.3 million COVID vaccine doses have already been administered nationwide.

Over 22 million people are now partially immunised, which accounts for around 93% of the country’s adult population.

Meanwhile, nearly 80% of the adult population has already completed both doses, involving almost 18.5 million recipients.
