Defence Minister Datuk Sri Ismail Sabri says that the cost of quarantine for Malaysians returning from overseas will no longer be free.

All non-Malaysians, including foreign spouses or those with permanent residency in Malaysia, will still have to bear 100% of the cost of the quarantine themselves.

According to The Star, the government had previously stressed that they will only bear the cost of quarantine for locals who are returning from abroad. The previous allowance for Malaysians who will be quarantined was capped at RM150 per day, which will no longer be applicable.

So if you’re returning to Malaysia from 1st June onwards, you will be required to sign a consent form that requires you to pay 50% of the quarantine cost, prior to boarding your flight back home.

Stay safe, everyone, and if you are required to travel during this MCO period, please abide by the SOPs.
