Malaysia Will Be COVID-19 Free If Zero Cases Recorded For 28 Consecutive Days

Just a few days ago, New Zealand declared itself COVID-19 free after no new cases were recorded for 17 days straight, so, some might be wondering, when will Malaysia be totally free of COVID-19?

Health director-general, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, in his daily press conference yesterday (11 June), said that Malaysia will declare itself COVID-19 free when there are zero new cases for 28 consecutive days.

“As of right now, to end a cluster, we monitor it for 28 days, which is two cycles of the virus’ incubation period. Hence, the same for the country, If we register zero cases for 28 consecutive days, then we will declare Malaysia free from the COVID-19 virus. That is our benchmark,” said Dr. Noor Hisham, as reported by BERNAMA.

Malaysians can expect all sectors to reopen by the end of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period.

More sectors will be allowed to open in stages if the number of cases in the country does not increase drastically, “What we’re making sure now is the number of cases will not increase drastically. If we can maintain the new cases at single or double digits, more sectors will be allowed to resume its operations.” he added.

Looks like we’re on the right track, Malaysia!

Keep up the good work! Follow the SOPs implemented by the government, and remember to practice social distancing and clean your hands regularly!
